A team of NHRC officers from its Janakpur-based regional office was deployed to investigate the issue on Friday, read a statement issued by NHRC on Saturday.
The officials will work together with the district administration, security personnel, journalists, local human rights activists, civil society and the local people. [break]
The commission has also urged the government to maintain peace and stability in the area where the conflict broke out and book the culprit at the soonest. Similarly, the NHRC has also demanded the government to guarantee security of the locals who are still under threat of physical attack and ensure free medical treatment to those who were injured in the Friday´s clash.
Two dozen people were injured when the police tried to take the situation under control. The injured are undergoing treatment for minor injuries at district hospital and private clinics. An all-party meeting was held to resolve the dispute between two local communities.
According to the police, the two groups clashed after three Muslim youths teased Hindu women from Dhanusha who were heading for Shiva temple in Sarashwor-1, a few days ago.
Following the teasing incident, 2,000 people belonging to Hindu community tried to enter the Muslim village Friday morning. The police had intervened to disperse the crowd. Later, around 8,000 people from the Hindu community made yet another attempt to enter the Muslim settlement at around 1 pm on Friday defying the curfew. The crowd set fire to six huts in the Muslim settlement.
Meanwhile, the Siraha local administration has lifted a curfew clamped in Sarashwar VDC from 4 am on Saturday. Earlier, the administration enforced 12-hour curfew in the VDC from 4.30 pm on Friday in the view of escalating violence as several houses were robbed and set on fire.
