Newly-elected NOC members assume office

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: The newly-elected executive committee members of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) assumed office on Thursday. A 17-member committee under the presidency of Jeevan Ram Shrestha was elected for a four-year term during the NOC's general assembly held on September 3.

Outgoing NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan handed over the responsibilities to Shrestha and other members of the committee during a program held at the NOC in Satdobato, Lalitpur.Newly-elected NOC President Shrestha, who was general secretary during Pradhan's tenure, said that the committee will be dedicated toward the development of Nepali sports.

Shrestha also praised Pradhan for leading the organization responsibly during a difficult period and starting 'Olympic Movement' in the country.

He reiterated that the NOC is the "statutory" sports organization in Nepal having recognition from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asian (OCA).

"The executive committee will be legal for next four years," added Shrestha.

Meanwhile, NOC handed over Rs 40,000 to 68 players, coaches, sports journalists and sports personalities, each affected by the devastating earthquake, during the same program.
