KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The Embassy of Nepal in Yangon organized various programs related to yoga and meditation on Sunday to mark the 2nd World Meditation Day at the embassy premises.
The programme began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by remarks from Nepal’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Harishchandra Ghimire. Welcoming the participants, Ambassador Ghimire highlighted the importance of meditation and its wide-ranging benefits, noting that the United Nations’ recognition of World Meditation Day has strengthened its universal appeal as a tool for self-awareness, unity and global peace.

Referring to this year’s UN theme, “Inner Peace and Global Harmony,” Ambassador Ghimire said the practice of yoga and meditation integrates the body, mind, spirit and soul, offering a holistic approach to health and well-being. He also urged participants to incorporate meditation into their daily lives.
During the programme, Ambassador Ghimire read out the message of Prime Minister Sushila Karki on the occasion of World Meditation Day.
The prabachan, yoga and meditation session was conducted by yoga and meditation trainer Dr Sirjana Bhandari, who explained the concepts of Yogasana, Pranayama and Dhyaan. Emphasizing the growing global acceptance of meditation, she said it has evolved into a widely practiced way of life. The session concluded with the practice of various asanas, pranayamas and dhyaan techniques.
The event was attended by members of the All Myanmar Gurkha Hindu Religious Association, representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Myanmar, representatives from the Bodhgaya Pilgrimage Working Committee, Nepali expatriates working with UN agencies and other organizations in Myanmar, Myanmar citizens, and family members of the embassy staff.
