KATHMANDU, Oct 3: The Nepali delegation in the USA attending the UN General Assembly expressed displeasure to the UN's initial statement issued immediately after Nepal adopted a new constitution last month.

The UN in its first statement had stated that it "has acknowledged" the adoption of new constitution in Nepal, which was widely criticized by the Nepalese people who saw it as the UN's reluctance to welcome Nepal's historic achievement. Later, the UN's secretary general issued another statement welcoming the promulgation of the constitution in Nepal.

The Nepali delegates, led by Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh, at a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York on Friday evening shared the Nepal government's impression. "We informed him that we couldn't understand what the UN wanted to express when Nepal adopted the new constitution," said Dinesh Bhattarai, the prime minister's foreign affairs advisor.
