During his meeting with WIPO Director General Francis Gurry on Friday, Bairagi asked the WIPO to protect and promote the interests of LDCS in its works, planning and programs. [break]
While expressing satisfaction over the increasing budget allocation to the implementation of WIPO development agenda, he thanked WIPO for initiating various IP related projects in Nepal.
According to a press statement issued by Nepal´s Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, Bairagi said the functioning of WIPO is always crucial for LDCs like Nepal in this age of technology, innovation and knowledge-based economy. The envoy said mandatory disclosure of origin is important in patent applications of any genetic resources used in an invention.
On the occasion, WIPO Director General Gurry said that his organization is making best efforts to remain inclusive and to be relevant to all member states irrespective of their development levels.
He said WIPO could help least developed countries like Nepal in branding for value addition, including geographical indications; developing patent system to promote innovation and digitizing traditional knowledge.
