The Challenge Trophy is being organized by International Handball Federation (IHF) while Nepal Handball Association is the local organizer. [break]
The Challenge Trophy will feature eight South Asian nations and Yemen from Central Asia. According to the organizers, the total number of participants in the tournament is 350, which includes players, coaches, referees and judges.
Nepali handball squad will leave for Pakistan for a week´s training this month. Nepali squad was invited by Pakistan for the training. Nepali squad will be later trained by foreign coach in June for 20 days.
For the women´s team, an U-19 selection tournament will be held next month at Ideal Model School. The selected players will be taken to Patiyala and other Indian cities for training.
IHF will bear the cost for the tournament. Nepal Handball Association received sports kits worth 4000 euros from IHF.
Prior to the Challenge Trophy, Nepal will host a meeting of Developed Countries of Handball in South Asian Zone (SCAZ) from May 26-29. This is the first time that Nepal Handball Association is conducting such a high-profile meeting. It is believed that the meeting will be beneficial for the development of handball in Nepal.
President of Nepal Handball Association, Tej Gurung, announced his proposals for the next four years. “We will increase the number of handball players in Nepal and take the team to finals in the South Asian Games.”
