Nepal resisters 2nd straight win

KATHMANDU, Sept 4:
Nepal registered second straight win in the ICC World Cricket Division Four tournament, defeating Tanzania by 8 wickets at Bayuemas Oval, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday.



Nepal chased down a target of 83 for the loss of two wickets in just 19.4 overs. Openers Anil Mandal (9 off 13 balls) and Subash Khakurel (20 off 56 balls) were the only Nepali batsmen out in the low-scoring match. [break]



Both the batsmen hit two fours each. Gyanendra Malla (28 off 39 balls) and Skipper Paras Khadka (15 off only 10 balls) were not out when Nepal surpassed the target.



Malla clobbered four boundaries while Khadka’s cameo included two fours and a six.



Earlier, electing to bat first the entire Tanzania innings crumbled for a meager 83 in 31.4 overs. Khadka took four wickets, while Basanta Regmi claimed three wickets to restrict the African nation to a low total.



It was medium pacer Binod Das who triggered the collapse of Tanzania innings, strike twice in successive balls in the 2nd over of the innings. Shakti Gauchan grabbed one wicket.



For Tanzania, wicketkeeper batsman I Kikasi top scored with 33 off 47 balls that included five hits to the fence.



Similarly, B Mwita scored 16 off 31 balls while K Rehemtulla made 11 towards the end the innings.



Besides, no other Tanzania batsmen could score in double digits. Nepal concended five runs as extras.



A day earlier, Nepal had defeated arch rival Singapore by five wickets. Nepal will next take on host Malaysia on Thursday.



The top two teams of the six-nation tournament will be promoted to Division Three, while the two teams at the bottom on the points tally will be relegated to Division Five.
