Tells Madhesis not to believe misinformation
Failure to call blockade a blockade caused poll defeat: Dr Koir...
RAUTAHAT, Oct 2: CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, addressing a gathering of his party cadres and locals here at Chandranigahapur, criticized Madhes-based parties for inflicting pain on Madhesi people by imposing continuous general strike for the last 49 days.
Speaking before the gathering, organized by the party's Rautahat district committee on Thursday, Nepal also accused India of orchestrating blockade along the Nepal-India border making the situation more complex. He said that India shouldn't trouble tens of millions of Nepali people going against Nepal-India bilateral treaties. He claimed that India can't force Nepal to give in by imposing blockades.
He urged India to strengthen relations with Nepal by winning the hearts and minds of Nepalis instead of bullying them. Nepal also claimed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's image created during his previous visits to the country was gradually waning due to the blockade.
He accused leaders from Madhes-based parties of misleading people in the Tarai by spreading false information about the contents of the new constitution.
"A Madhes province has been delineated stretching from Saptari to Parsa," he said. "Doesn't that respect Madhesi people's aspiration for a separate Madhes province based on Madhesi people's culture?"
He urged one and all to go through the text of the new constitution before protesting against it. "No one has explained the good provisions of the new constitution to the Madhesi people, who are joining the protests driven by misinformation," he said.
Stating that the citizenship was a major concern for the Madhesi people, he said the new constitution has properly addressed the grievances of genuine Madhesi people. "Anyone who acquires the naturalized citizenship of Nepal after relinquishing citizenship of other country can't be allowed to become the head of the government. This will not be acceptable to us," he said.
He informed that with the new parliament session starting from Friday, the process to form a new government will also begin.
He said that the demands of agitating parties can be addressed through amendments in the new constitution if they show flexibility.
