Minister Shrestha addressed inaugural session of the conference along with political leaders of the other South Asian countries and senior executives of the UN systems. [break]"I touched upon the various social and economic problems faced by the common people of the developing countries in general, and LDCs in particular," Shrestha said.
Minister Shrestha said he stressed on the need of working together of the community of nations in the true spirit of cooperation and partnership for eradication of hunger, poverty, deprivation and for promotion of equitable development opportunity based on social equity and justice.
During his stay in Dhaka, Shrestha paid courtesy call on Bangladeshi Prime Minister Shekh Hasina and Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Moni. Shrestha said he had fruitful discussions with them on strengthening bilateral political relations, trade promotion and transit system and the possibility of investment in hydropower sector and tourism for enhanced people-to-people contact.
Minister Shrestha said his visit to Dhaka gave him an opportunity to show solidarity and cooperation with close neighboring countries and share global agendas of common concerns as well as strengthen bilateral relations.
"It has strengthened the existing goodwill and understanding at the higher political level for the pursuit of common interests," he said.
