The players of NPC had achieved four silver and 11 bronze medals for Nepal in the SAG. Silver medalists Manita Shahi and Kumar Manandhar of taekwondo, Chanda Bhandari of women´s group football and Binod Maharjan of karate bagged a purse of Rs 15,000 each. [break]
Bronze medalists, who received Rs 10,000 each, were Debu Thapa (judo), Radha Devi Rai (judo), Ganesh Bahadur Thing (karate), Ajay Suwal (table tennis), Deep Saun (table tennis), Bikash Shrestha (badminton), Shanti Malla (kabaddi), Nirmala Bista (kabaddi), Neetu Gurung (kabaddi), Sangeeta Gautam (kabaddi) and Netra Kumari Thapa (kabaddi).
Among the players, Radha Devi Rai and Ganesh Bahadur Thing were promoted to assistant sub-inspectors while Binod Maharjan, Shanti Malla, Chanda Bhandari and Nirmala Bista were promoted to head constables.
Likewise, footballers Rakesh Shrestha, Parwat Pandey, Deepak Poudel, Suman Subedi and Ritesh Thapa were also promoted. Rakesh Shrestha received the insignia of sub-inspector from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ramesh Chand Thakuri while the remaining footballers got the post of assistant sub-inspectors.
During the function, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Kalyan Kumar Timilsina said some other SAG medalists will be promoted after the completion of their training. Timilsina also expressed his grievances to National Sports Council (NSC) General Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary that the departmental teams are not receiving proper support from the NSC.
Meanwhile, IGP Thakuri said that the players of NPC could have done much better had they not been deployed to quell protestors. “The situation in Nepal is volatile and the players have to be deployed often in the streets to control violence,” said Thakuri.
