Sabe Tibbitts, trade delegation leader from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) which is UK´s only official trade promotion body, said at a program in the capital, “I see a better recognition of the need for balance in growing the economy here and I hope Nepal will soon be seen as The Switzerland of South Asia. This will mean the development of skills and high-value industries as represented in the UK delegation."[break]
On the occasion, Tibbitts presented souvenirs to President of Nepal-Britain Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rajendra Khetan and its Vice-president Ganga Shrestha.
Khetan spoke about the importance of trade and investment between the two countries.
Chairman of Gateway Asia Ash Verma and Mahanta Shrestha of Nepal-Britain Chamber of Commerce highlighted the potential of transferring knowledge and skills by Non-Resident Nepalis from the UK to Nepal.
The delegates met Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Minister of Commerce and Supplies (MoCS) Lekh Raj Bhatta, MoCS Secretary Purshottam Ojha, Acting Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation Lok Bahadur Khatri.
During the meeting, the delegation expressed interest in knowing about barriers and opportunities in UK-Nepal trade.
The trade delegation is scheduled to meet Nepali ministers, officials and businessmen during the six-day visit to Nepal.
