Chief District Officers (CDOs) and security officials of Jhapa, Ilam and Paanchthar districts and the district magistrate and other officials of the Darjeeling district of India took part in the meeting.[break]
The Nepali team was led by CDO of Jhapa Narendra Raj Sharma while Magistrate Dr Sumitra Mohan led the Indian side in the meeting.
At the meeting matters relating to the border encroachment, activities in the no-mans-land, renovation of the damaged border pillars, controlling smuggling and criminal activities in the bordering region, facilitation in the customs and checking illegal trade of fake notes, drugs and human trafficking, according to CDO Sharma.
Allowing government and ambulance in times of emergency to travel up to Siliguri from Nepal based on a permit letter from the CDO was also discussed at the meeting.
Both sides also agreed to form a joint task force to minimize the damage incurred by wild elephants crossing into Jhapa from neighbouring India. According a joint patrol team could be mobilized in both sides of the border as per an agreement.
Also present at the meeting were CDO of Ilam Baburam Khatiwada, CDO of Paanchthar Kosh Hari Niroula, security officials of the three districts and representatives of Forest, Customs and Survey Offices.
