Nepal in semis with three wins

KATHMANDU, Jan 27:
Nepal stormed into the semifinals of ACC Women´s Championship, defeating Malaysia by seven wickets at the Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club ground in Thailand on Sunday. This is Nepal´s third straight win in the tournament.



Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Malaysian could manage to put on board only 65 runs losing eight wickets in alloted 25 overs. Nepal chased down the target just in 11.3 overs for the loss of three wickets. [break]



Nepali opener Madhu struck 16, with two fours, in her 19-ball knock and shared a 30 run opening partnership with Sita (10), who faced 27 balls. Number three Roshani Bohara scored just one, while Sarita Magar chipped in with an unbeaten 9 off 14 balls, including a four.



With Sarita, Nary Thapa remained not out on 10 that also included a six. Nepal earned 20 runs as extras. For the losing side, Winifred Duraisingam, Jannadiah Halim and Nur Syazwina took one wicket each.



Earlier, skipper Rubina Chhetry and Sarita took two wickets each to skittle Malaysia for a small total. Emylia Rahim top-scored with 21 off 60 balls ,with one boundary.



Apart from her, no other Malaysian players made it to double figures, with the second highest score (18) coming as extras. For Nepal, besides Chhetry and Magar, Karuna Bhandari and Neera Rajopadhyay took one wicket apiece, while two Malaysian players were run out.



Nepal beat the UAE by 86 runs on Friday after defeating Bhutan by eight wickets in its opening match on Thursday. The winner of the championship will qualify for the ICC Women´s World T20 Qualifiers to be held in Ireland in August.
