Nepal goes down to Namibia

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Nepal on Thursday failed to get a direct entry to the ICC U-19 World Cup for 2018 after facing a 15-run defeat to Namibia in the seventh place play-off of the ongoing youth world cup in Bangladesh.

As per the recent ICC decision, a top Associate nation in the Bangladesh World Cup gets direct entry for the next edition. Nepal and Namibia were in the race and the African nation secured its place for the next edition.


Deciding to bat first, Namibia put 225/9 in a match of 45 overs per side. Lohan Louwrens (59) and Michael van Lingen (58) helped Namibia to put up the fighting total. In reply, Nepal managed 210 runs in 44.2 overs despite Sunil Dhamala scoring 59 runs. With the defeat, Nepal finished eighth in the tournament.
