Nepal drops to nine spots in FIFA rankings

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Nepal has dropped to nine spots in the latest FIFA men´s world ranking published on Wednesday for the month of October.



Nepal has slipped to 144th position from 135th position. [break]



The ranking is published on monthly basis. According to the ranking Nepal has collected 176 points. With the new ranking, Nepal has also lost its top ranking among the South Asian countries.



Nepal had led the ranking of South Asian region since June earlier this year. Now Bangladesh placed in 141st position occupies the top spot in South Asian region. Bangladesh has also dropped three places below compared to September´s ranking. India is ranked 160, while Maldives 162, Pakistan 173, Sri Lanka 177, Afghanistan 184 and Bhutan 199 respectively.



India and Maldives has climbed three and four positions up in the monthly ranking. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan has dropped one position.



Nepali team dropped in the FIFA ranking following 4-0 loss to low ranked Philippines in an international friendly match played on October 11 in Manila, Philippines during its month-long tour to ASEAN countries.



Philippines climbed eighth position up in the ranking to occupy 158th position. Spain, Netherlands, Germany, Uruguay and Brazil are in top five positions of the rankings respectively.
