Nefin cadre declared martyr

KATHMANDU, June 7: The government has declared Dhan Bahadur Thanet, a cadre of Nepal Federation Indigenous nationalities (Nefin), as martyr and decided to provide Rs 1 million to the bereaved family members.



A cabinet meeting on Thursday took the decision to this effect. [break]



Thanet who was injured in police action during protest at Kawasoti of Nawalparasi died while undergoing treatment at TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj.



The government also decided to pay for the treatment of assistant sub inspector Mahesh Giri and Ram Giri. Giri duo was injured in a broad daylight shooting of Justice Ram Bahadur Bam. Bam died while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital.



Similarly, brigadier general of Nepal Army Surendra Bahadur Karki has been promoted to major general.



The government has also decided to relieve acting chairman of Gorkhapatra Sansthan Ram Prasad Singh of his responsibility while promoted Dilip Raj Regmi to the post of director general of the National Investigation Bureau.



In yet another decision, government decided to pay for the treatment of Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican central committee member Chandrika Yadav, who had undergone treatment for heart-related problem.
