KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Nepali Congress (NC) has nominated youth candidate Prabal Thapa for Kathmandu-1, replacing senior leader Prakashman Singh, who had consecutively won the last four elections.
Singh’s name had been recommended by the party’s lower committees and he was confident of receiving the ticket. He had aligned with the establishment faction, calling the January 11–14 Special General Convention against the party's statute.

Singh served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development during the September 8–9 Gen Z protests.
Prabal Thapa, a delegate of the party’s Special General Convention, is a cousin of pro-monarchy leader Kamal Thapa and has been a long-time loyalist of the party.
