Ncell Cup from Sept 12; winner to get Rs 3m

KATHMANDU, Aug 24: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) is organizing Ncell Cup from September 12 as a knockout tournament with the biggest prize money.



According to ANFA, 16 A division football clubs will participate in the tournament that will run for a month. ANFA General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan said in a press meet on Friday that the winner would get Rs 1.5 million from a total purse of Rs 3 million. [break]Likewise, the runner-up will bag Rs 700,000 while semifinalists will get Rs 150,000.



Earlier, British Gurkha Cup was the knockout tournament with highest cash prize in the country. The winner of the British Gurkha Cup has been receiving Rs 1 million from a total purse of Rs 2 million.







Ncell Cup is the second tournament under the sponsorship of the telecom company. ANFA had successfully organized National Women´s Football Tournament in Rautahat and Bara last month under the sponsorship of Ncell. Ncell had signed a sponsorship contract of Rs 10 million with ANFA on June 13 to organize the women´s tournament, youth tournament, an A division knockout tournament and assisting women´s national squad.



According to Pradhan, the 16 participating teams would be divided into four different groups and top two teams from each group would qualify for the quarterfinal stage.



ANFA will ward the best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, forward and coach of the tournament with cash prize of Rs 75,000 each, while the best player of the tournament will receive a motorbike.



According to ANFA President Ganesh Thapa, the association would provide Rs 100,000 to each club in grants. Likewise, clubs would get their share from the gate money collected during the tournament. "We´ll give clubs their share in the gate money. However, we are yet to fix the percentage," said Thapa.



Ncell´s Corporate Communication Manager Sanju Koirala said the tournament and the sponsorship is for the development of football. Koirala said the success of Women´s National Football Tournament last month has encouraged them to continue their sponsorship.
