KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Representatives from the major oppositions, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, have demanded a probe into alleged embezzlement of funds at Maoist cantonments, during a meeting of Special Committee (SC) for supervision, integration and rehabilitation of Maoist combatants, on Monday.

Though the UCPN (Maoist) has formed its own panel to probe alleged financial irregularities at the Maoist camps, the representatives from NC and UML have demanded that the SC, too, conduct an investigation to the alleged misappropriation of funds that were meant for ex-Maoist fighters. [break]

Today’s meeting also decided to issue the second installment of gratuity to those combatants who opted voluntarily retirement by Oct 18. The meeting also tasked the SC secretariat with necessary works for dispensation of payee checks at PLA cantonments to the combatants, who have not received their retirement fund, yet.
