KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC) have expedited consultations with other political parties to win their support for party’s prime ministerial candidate, Ram Chandra Poudel, for the majority government.

In a bid to win UML’s support for NC candidate Poudel, the top leaders of the NC met senior leader of the UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, at the latter’s residence in Koteshwor on Thursday.[break]

NC president, Sushil Koirala, pm candidate Poudel, general secretary Krishna Sitaula and central member Ram Sharan Mahat were present in the meeting while UML general secretary Ishwor Pokhrel also participated the meeting from the UML’s side.

After the meeting, Mahat said they urged UML leader Nepal to support NC’s candidate Poudel in the prime ministerial election.

The NC and UML share common views on issues related to the peace process and army integration. Both the parties are saying that a Maoist-led government was unacceptable until the former rebel party renounces arms.
