Speaking at a program in Reporters Club Nepal, Koirala said NC will initiate fresh efforts to persuade the protesting CPN-Maoist and Madhesi People’s Rights Forum Nepal parties into participating in the new elections once the party assumes HLPC leadership. [break]
“We will do everything in our power to convince them (the parties) for consensus and will persuade them to be part of the now four-party mechanism,” Koirala said. “I will proceed for this once Prachandaji (Pushpa Kamal Dahal) returns from China,” he added.
The NC president also indicated that his party is willing to contest new elections in co-ordination with other parties. “The country is at a critical juncture. The parties have to work in tandem.” He further said the party’s recent Mahasamiti meeting has now clarified the NC’s position on the issue of federalism. “The meet has clearly presented our part’s stance that there should not be more than seven federal provinces,” he added.
