KATHMANDU, Dec 7: Nepali Congress (NC) has followed the CPN-UML in petitioning the Supreme Court (SC) for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR), which was dissolved in the wake of the Gen Z movement in early September.
According to former NC Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire, the party’s lawmakers have approached the apex court with the same demand as the UML. “We went to the Supreme Court with the signatures of the chief whip and the whip,” Ghimire said.

Ghimire confirmed that former Attorney General Khamma Bahadur Khati has been authorized to file the petition on their behalf. “We submitted the documents to him through a power of attorney,” he added.
However, NC Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat clarified that the party has made no official decision to file a writ demanding the reinstatement of the HoR. He noted that the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) has already resolved to participate in the HoR elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
It is said that eight NC lawmakers from the dissolved HoR—including former Chief Whip Ghimire and Whip Sushila Thing—submitted a writ petition at the SC on Sunday, seeking the reinstatement of the dissolved lower house of the federal parliament.
