Issuing a joint press statement on Wednesday, the lawmakers said they would not accept the reports that propose to separate the nine districts interlinked geographically, economically, socially and culturally. [break]
“We have reservations over the report submitted by the majority members of the SRC that proposes to separate Kailali and Kanchanpur districts from the far western region,” read the statement issued by the NC lawmakers.
Stating that a divided far western region would halt the socio economic and cultural development of the region, the lawmakers also demanded a single federal state to accommodate all the nine districts in the region.
The lawmakers have also demanded that the restructuring of the far western region be carried out in a way that would ensure the rights of indigenous communities, Dalits, Rautes and other backward groups.
The statement was undersigned by NC lawmakers, including Ramesh Lekhak, Debraj Joshi, Chandriram Tamata, Kalpana Sob, Ishwori Neupane, Arju Deuba Rana and Maha Nepali.
