According to NC 12th General Convention Election Committee, the conventions were held peacefully in all districts except a case of scuffle between the cadres of two rival factions in the remote Dolpa district where the convention has been put off for Friday. NC activist Laxmi Kumari Shahi was injured in the clash. Police resorted to batoncharge to contain the situation. Election results had just begun coming in from the districts when this report was filed late Thursday evening.
Kamal Pangeni, Bikash Koirala and Madan Bahadur Amatya were elected president in Syangja, Chitwan and Lalitpur district committees, respectively.
In Tanahun, Dhruva Wagle won the post of district president by securing 346 votes against 192 votes secured by his nearest rival Krishna Prasad Gautam. Bal Krishna Ghimire and Chhatra Raj Bhandari were elected secretary and treasurer, respectively. Wagle is considered close to party leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Gautam is close to Gobinda Raj Joshi.
In Bardiya, Sanjaya Gautam was elected president, defeating his nearest rival Swadesh Bista with a margin of 9 votes. Tek Bahadur Bhat and Hem Kumari Chaudhary were elected secretary and treasurer.
In Surkhet, Tapta Bahadur Bista was elected president, defeating his rival Kali Prasad Shakya. Shyam Bharati and Gobinda Koirala were elected secretary and treasurer.
In Dadeldhura, leaders close to Sher Bahadur Deuba were elected unanimously in the district committee. While Karna Bahadur Malla was elected president, Kailash Kumar Pandey and Lokraj Bhatta were elected as vice president and secretary.
Election committees have decided to hold run-off elections in Sunsari, Ramechhap, Kaski, and Morang as none of the candidates vying for the post of district presidents secured the required 51 percent votes.
NSU president defeated
Pradip Poudel, president of the NC´s sister wing Nepal Students´ Union, who filed candidacy for general convention representative from election constituency-3 of Tanahun district, was defeated by a vote. He bagged 75 votes.
