A Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Thursday agreed to hold the convention from August 27 to 30 in Kathmandu. The party, however, is due to make formal announcement of the convention date. [break]
This is the first CWC meeting of the party held after the demise of party president Girija Prasad Koirala.
NC had sought a one-year extension with the Election Commission to hold its general convention last year after it failed to hold the convention on time. The NC must hold its convention by August 31, 2010 as per the existing regulations.
Speaking to media persons, NC Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel said, “A central working committee meeting scheduled for Friday will finalize the date.”
The CWC meeting stressed on the need to iron out differences in the party´s district level committees. The party office bearers also separately held meeting before sitting for the CWC meeting.
Among others, differences have surfaced in the party´s district working committees in Okhaldhunga and Sankhuwasabha. The CWC members had asked the office bearers to either settle the issues through consensus or move ahead through voting process.
According to Poudel, the CWC meeting decided to direct all district committees to complete distribution of active membership by mid-May.
