The party´s central working committee (CWC) meeting on Friday decided to ask the party´s local committees to recommend five names keeping in view the concerns of the district committee presidents, who had said that would be difficult for them to name fewer candidates. Earlier, the NC had directed district committees to recommend names of three candidates for first-past-the-post electoral system from each constituency. [break]
As per the party´s statute, a parliamentary board due to be formed will pick one candidate from among the names recommended by the party´s district level committees. President Koirala had said that the candidates recommended for the FPTP and proportional electoral system would not be eligible for becoming candidates for local level election such as municipality, district development committees and VDCs.
The CWC meeting has been put off until further notice as the general convention of the NC-affiliated Trade Union is being held this week. Over a dozen CWC members speaking at Friday´s meeting had put forth their views on the concurrent political situation, party´s election strategy and election manifesto.
Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel had submitted political paper after incorporating the suggestions received from Mahasamiti members during the Mahasamiti meeting held in Nawalparasi in April during Friday´s CWC meeting.
