NC district leaders urge Prez to discourage 'ordinance rule'

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: Nepali Congress (NC) district committee presidents have urged President Ram Baran Yadav not to support the current caretaker government´s style of running the country through ordinances.



During a two-hour meeting with President Yadav at his official residence in Shital Niwas on Friday morning, they also asked him to safeguard the constitution in his capacity as the head of the state. [break]



"We drew the president´s attention to the fact that the caretaker government is bent on running the county through ordinance, and also asked him to safeguard the constitution," said NC Nuwakot District President Jagadishwor Nara Singh KC.



Some 60 NC district presidents had reached the office of the president to hold a formal meeting with Yadav, who was an NC leader before being elected as the head of the state in 2008.



In response, President Yadav said he would act as per the spirit of the Interim Constitution. "I wish to see the government and political parties working as per the spirit of the constitution as well," KC quoted Yadav as saying.



The NC district presidents from across the country had converged in Barhabise of Sindhupalchowk to discuss the future strategy of the party.
