The party has not changed the date of its 13th general convention scheduled to start on March 3."The date for the general convention will remain the same, but local level conventions will be put on hold for a few days," informed acting president of the NC Ram Chandra Paudel.
An emergency central working committee meeting of the party, held at the party office in Sanepa on Tuesday, after Koirala's death, decided to put off all ongoing programs of the party for now.
District conventions of the party were underway in several districts with elections being held to pick local-level leadership. Though the convention kicked off in most of the districts on Monday, some districts had scheduled the voting for Tuesday.
Similarly, VDC, municipal and constituency level conventions of the party were yet to conclude in various Tarai-Madhes districts that were affected by months-long Tarai unrest.
Apart from holding off the conventions and formal programs, the central working committee meeting has also decided to fly the party flag at half mast for 13 days. Issuing a press statement after the meeting, the party has announced that a condolence gathering would be held at party offices in all districts on February 21.
