The meeting on Thursday had reached an agreement to hold a four-day convention starting August 27. The Friday´s meeting, however, decided to extend the convention by a day keeping in view of procedural matters that could consume more time. [break]
The convention being held after the demise of party president Girija Prasad Koirala will hand over the party´s leadership to second generation leaders.
While the party´s acting president Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba have already announced their candidacy for the party presidency, the party´s parliamentary leader Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung and central member Khum Bahadur Khadka are also likely to vie for the top post.
The meeting has directed all districts committees to send the forms of active members to the party´s central office by April 28. However, the date for sending the forms of active membership in case of the districts where differences have surfaced has been set for mid-May.
A committee formed under the chair of Vice Chairman Prakash Man Shrestha has resolved the differences seen in all but Okhaldhunga and Sankhuwasabha districts.
The meeting has decided to verify the forms of active members separately by district committee president, vice president and immediate past president of the party in case of districts where there have been alleged irregularities while distributing active membership.
Seniority row ends!
Meanwhile, the row over seniority in the NC has come to and end in Friday´s meeting.
There has been an agreement to mention in all minutes that the meeting was held under the chair of acting president Sushil Koirala.
The names of party´s founding leader KP Bhattarai, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and vice president Ram Chandra Poudel will be put in a chronological order.
