CHITWAN, Aug 31: Nepali Congress (NC) Chitwan will hold an election for the new working committee again as the candidates vying for the post of the president failed to secure a clear majority in election held on Friday morning.

The election is scheduled for today evening.[break]

Four candidates—Tek Prasad Gurung, Bikash Koirala, Bhim Bahadur Shrestha and Kamal Acharya—were vying for the post of Chitwan NC president. Gurung secured 258 votes, Koirala 204, Shrestha 58 and Acharya 15 votes of total 559 votes.

Gurung and Koirala will only contend in the second round of the election.

The post remained vacant after Bikash Koirala, the former president, was dragged in a controversy over a murder in Bharatpur jail riot. Koirala was allegedly involved in murder of Tarun Dal Chitwan president Shiva Poudel in the riot.

The central working committee of Nepali Congress had dissolved Koirala-led committee over the controversy.

The vote counting for the rest of the posts is still underway.
