NBA President Rajiv Shrestha handed over Rs 50,000 to Thapa´s daughter Aashika amidst a function in Kathmandu on Wednesday. According to Shrestha, the amount was collected from NBA officials.[break]
Likewise, boxing coaches working at the National Sports Council (NSC) provided Rs 16,858 to Thapa´s daughter by contributing a day´s salary. Boxing players undergoing a special training raised Rs 4,200 by donating two days´ allowance. Boxing chief coach Om Maskey handed over the amount to Aashika.
Likewise, Makawanpur District Boxing Association announced financial support of Rs 5,000 while Armed Police Force´s boxing coach Kiran Thapa said he would provide a wheelchair to Thapa.
According to NBA, Thapa is paralyzed on the left side of his body after he suffered a brain-stroke due to high blood pressure last week. Thapa has been receiving treatment at the Neuro Hospital, Bansbari.
"We have also asked the National Sports Council to provide support to Thapa," said NBA President Shrestha.
Meanwhile, Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA) General Secretary Deepak Shrestha said his association will work to provide financial support to Thapa from the Players´ Welfare Fund under NSC.
Thapa, who hails from Birgunj, had clinched gold medals in four editions -- 12th to 15th -- of the National Boxing Championship in the heavyweight (91 kg) category.
Thapa had also claimed bronze medal during the Fourth South Asian Games held in Pakistan in 1989 and participated in the 11th Asian Games in Beijing in 1990. He had been serving Nepali boxing as volunteer coach since 2053 BS.
