Issuing a press statement on Sunday, NATO said: "The rising mistrust between the ruling and the opposition political parties, reemergence of demonstrations and strikes and the prolonged political transition have already sent a negative message to potential tourists as well as international tour operators about Nepal."
The professional body of tour operators said that they were worried that the strike in the middle of the tourist season (March- May) might deal a severe blow to tourism sector in particular and country's economy in general as tourists will either cancel or postpone their trips because of the protests. "NATO is very worried that the possible political clashes may cause a severe damage to the tourism industry," said the statement.
NATO has called on the government to ensure that visiting tourists can travel to different tourist destinations without any inconvenience. It has requested the 30-party alliance to call off the protests immediately and seek solution to the problem through peaceful means.
