KATHMANDU, April 12: The British cricket team on a mission to set world record by playing a cricket match at the Everest Base Camp has been left stranded after Sagarmatha National Park denied entry on Saturday.

Warden of the national park Ram Chandra Kandel has invoked the rule that requires permit for a foreigner to enter any national park in Nepal and also cited public pressure to stop the team in Monjo.

Minister for Forest Kiran Gurung will fly to Lukla to rescue the event named “The Everest Test 2009” to be played between two teams named Tenzing and Hillary and scheduled for April 21, the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. A 65mX45m ground has already been made in Gorakhshep for the high profile international event.

The tournament had got clearance from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation with approval from the Youth and Sports Ministry, Home Ministry and Forest Ministry.
