NAC's Rana released on bail

KATHMANDU, Jan 31: Mayur Sumsher Rana, one of the six officials of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) charged with corruption in the Airbus purchase deal, has been released on bail of Rs 1.5 million by the Special Court Monday.



The court sought the bail after Rana recorded his statement before court officials. [break]



Rana, who was absconding at the time the case was filed, had presented himself before the court on Monday following summons.



The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had filed a corruption case against Rana and five other NAC officials including Executive Chairman Sugat Ratna Kansakar at the court nearly two months ago.



They were charged with violating the Public Procurement Act and embezzling Rs 57.3 million while sending non-refundable lock-up money to the Airbus company.



Meanwhile, the court has also sought bail amount of Rs 500,000 from Shyam Sundar Mishra, now suspended local development officer of Bara district.
