NAC on Monday sent a letter signed by its officiating executive director O B Gurung to Airbus, requesting the latter to deposit $750,000 in its bank account.[break]
The decision came a day after the Special Court sent the then chairman Sugat Ratna Kansakar to custody after he failed to furnish a bail of Rs 60 million.
It took NAC nearly a month to respond to the letter sent by Airbus. The European aircraft manufacturer had sent a letter to Kansakar in the first week of February, requesting him to forward the bank account number to refund the lock up money.
NAC forwarded its bank account number to Airbus as per the instruction of Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation. NAC employees too had been pressing the management for early recovery of the lock up money.
After receiving letter from Airbus, NAC Executive Director K B Limbu consulted Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority´s (CIAA) as the case is under investigation of the constitutional anti-graft body.
CIAA has filed a case against Kanskar along with five other senior officials, charging them of embezzling Rs 57.3 million by sending non-refundable money to Airbus by flouting the Public Procurement Act.
