Nabil Three Star Club leaves for Sikkim

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC), the title holders is leaving for Sikkim, India on Sunday to participate in the 31st Governors´ Gold Cup Football Tournament. [break]



On the way to Sikkim, NTSC will play a friendly football match with Jhapa-11 in Kakarbhitta to be organized by the Jhapa District Football Association in a bid to establish players´ welfare fund. NTSC is scheduled to play its first match-quarterfinals on Sept 17.



CG foods has provided sports material worth Rs 100,000 for this tour. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa bade a farewell to the team captained by Surendra Tamang.



Upendra Man Singh is the and Bal Gopal Maharjan are the coaches and Krishna Bahadur Shrestha is the manager of the team. Meanwhile, Nabil Bank has extended contract with the Three Star Club for one more year.



Makhan on sole lead



Makhan Chess Club is on the sole lead after the completion of round four with eight points in the ongoing Himalayan Cup First National Team Chess Championship being held at Lagankhel.



In the fourth round Makhan beat the host´s Himalayan Chess Club ´A´ 3-1 sets and in the third set held earlier Makhan downed Kantipur Chess Club 2.5-1.5 sets.



Five-a-side football from Saturday



Soccer Group, Lalitpur, is organizing the Nature Valley Five-A-Side Football Festival on Saturday at the Buddi Bikash Ground, Lagenkhel.



In total, 17 corporate teams are participating in the tournament to be held on the league cum knockout basis, informed the organizers amidst a press meet in the capital on Friday.



The contesting teams are divided into four groups with Patan Hospital, Everest Bank, Sujal Foods, Night King Club and Scholar Media in group ´A´. Likewise, Batas Group, Himalayan Distillery, Digi Tech  and Shree Yantra are pitted in group ´B´, group ´C´ consists of Friends Vetran, RAD, NSJF and Himalayan Sherpa Club.



NRC, North Point, Bhani Mandal and NRSJF are placed in group ´D´. The league round matches will be held for 20 minutes and the knockout round for 30 minutes. The expected expenses of the tournament sponsored by Nature Valley (Sitaula Group) is Rs 300,000.



Dipesh, Punam win U-16 titles



Dipesh Dhami of the APF  and Punam Gurung of Kaski won the U-16 men´s  and women´s single title in the Nation-wide Open Badminton on Friday being held at the Nepal Police Club, Bhrikutimandap.



Dhami downed Bilal Waris of Banke 21-17, 17-21, 21-12 in the final. Likewise, Gurung humiliated Samjhana Sharma of  Banke21-7, 21-8 to bag the title. In men´s single category, Ratna Deep Tamang of Bhojpur edged out Pankaj Chand of the APF  21-18, 21-13 to secure the semifinal spot.



Police beat PLA



Nepal Police defeated Peoples liberation Army (PLA) Club under the men´s category on Friday in the opener of super league round in the National Women´s and Men´s League Volleyball Tournament held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.



Police recorded a comfortable win over PLA in the straight set 21-11, 25-18, 25-15. In another match, Employment Creation Service (ECS) had a hard fought victory over Western Region 17-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 19-17.
