Likewise, the price of locally supplied goat has been fixed at Rs 270 - Rs 275 per kg. Previously, it was priced in a range of Rs 280 - Rs 285 per kg.[break]
However, consumers will need to wait for a couple of days for the price change to reflect on the retail counters. “If the price does not moderate, retailers will announce a new rate in two to three days. In that case, the retail price too will drop by 10 percent," said Deepak Thapa, president of NLTA.
Currently, mutton is available at Rs 550 per kg.
NLTA officials said goats´ supply in the valley improved after traders brought goats on a large scale from local markets like Salyan, Surkhet, Ramechhap, Dang and Kohalpur, among others, particularly after monsoon eased.
Currently, Thapa said the valley is receiving around 1,000 goats a day whereas until Wednesday it was receiving just around 200 goats a day. Interestingly, the demand of meat has gone down with the end of Teej and other festival.
