BAGLUNG, July 4: Community schools in Mustang district that remained closed for two weeks due to a strike called by teachers opened from Sunday.

Joint coordinator of a teachers´ struggle committee Sher Bahadur Gurung said they decided to call off the strike and resume classes in light of recent political changes in the nation.

"We drew attention of the ministries concerned during our strike," he said. "Though all were positive toward our demands, we considered changing the form of our movement as the government is being changed," he said.

The agitating teachers have been demanding to level remoteness allowance with that enjoyed by the civil servants and to increase local allowance. They had padlocked the District Education Office (DEO) and also sent a delegation to the capital to take up their agendas with the Education Ministry.

"We, however, continue our movement along with different activities like boycotting DEO´s programs and picketing the DEO every day," said Ananta Acharya, a teacher of Gyanodaya Higher Secondary School.
