KATHMANDU, September 1: The Upendra Yadav led- Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Nepal (MPRF-N) has decided to stand for “one Madhes, one province” in its election manifesto for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Briefing the party´s central committee (CC) meeting on Sunday, CC member Arjun Thapa said, “Our election manifesto will stand for one Madhes.” He also accused other Madhes-based parties of neglecting the aspirations of the Madhesi people expressed during the Madhes movement.

Thapa said their party will file candidacy for 80 of the total 240 constituencies. “We are very strong in 65 constituencies, where the party stands a high chance of winning elections,” said Thapa. He also said that construction of the postal highways would be he party´s main agenda for the November elections. [break]

“We have envisioned attracting foreign investment, developing hydropower projects and promoting alternative sources of energy in our manifesto,” he said, adding that the party would also seek formation of a Muslim Commission.

Asserting that it is necessary to learn lessons from the failure of the previous CA, Thapa said, “We will inform the people about the experiences in the previous CA, which failed to draft the new constitution.” He also said that the party would strengthen its relations with India.

Thapa also claimed that his party stands a high chance of winning elections in Madhesi constituencies as it had spearheaded the Madhes movement.

Another MPRF-N leader requesting anonymity said, “There won´t be any political adjustment with MPRF-N and other Madhes based parties. The leaders of these parties have earned notoriety for neglecting working to fulfill the ambitions of certain leaders.”

MPRF-N´s decision comes in the wake of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal saying in public on Saturday that Madhesi parties are infamous down to the last hair of the head.

However, political analysts have said there is a possibility of electoral adjustment between MPRF-N and UCPN (Maoist). Political analyst Chandrakishore claimed that both the parties have reached an understanding on political adjustment for the polls. “There would be sharing of 116 constituencies of Madhes between the MPRF-N and UCPN (Maoist),” he claimed. He further said that the party´s demand for one Madhesh should be taken positively.
