KATHMANDU, April 4: Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (MPRF) has decided to organize a national gathering in Janakpur from Friday to discuss its future strategy saying conspiracy was being hatched against federalism and the new constitution.

MPRFChairman Upendra Yadav on Wednesday said the party would draw up detailed strategy after the three-day national gathering. [break]

“The national gathering will support the party to move forward through ideological transformation and review the present situation,” Yadav told a press conference in Singh Durbar.

He warned that Madhesi peoples will not accept a new constitution if it is promulgated without finalizing the issue of federalism-based on identity.

"The protests will be more intense than the one carried out by Madhes-based political parties following the promulgation of the Interim Constitution if the new constitution is adopted without addressing our demand for identity based federalism," Yadav said.

At least 52 people died in a wave of demonstrations by Madhes based parties in 2007 saying the interim constitution did not have any reference to federalism.

“How one can prove legitimacy of the president, government and other constitutional bodies if the new constitution is not promulgated by May 27,” Yadav argued. He also suggested that the CA must reduce work procedure if it to meet the deadline.
