BIRGUNJ, Aug 22: Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said Saturday that the current political crisis would be resolved immediately if the Maoists are allowed to table a motion at the parliament against the president´s “unconstitutional move” reinstating the then army chief Rookmangud Katawal. “The move (by the president) is not about an army chief or Katawal alone; it is also about a plan by reactionaries who don´t want to see change. So the move must be debated in the parliament,” said Dahal while speaking at a press meet in Birgunj.

According to him, the ruling political parties don´t wish the issue to be debated in the House for fear of falling in minority.

Dahal also claimed that ground is ripening for a Maoist-led national unity government as per the people´s wishes.

He claimed it is his party´s compulsion, not a wish, to launch protests on the streets and in the parliament. “But we will move ahead with protest and dialogue side by side.”

On the India visit by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Dahal claimed the visit has not only become worthless, but also brought shame to the country.

He said the Indian mainstream media did not give any space to the prime minister´s visit and this shows the “worthlessness and shamefulness” of the visit. According to him, the Indian media boycotted news about Prime Minister Nepal as they knew he leads a “puppet government” in Nepal. “They had given a good coverage to my India visit,” he said, “The Indian media were compelled to do so as mine was a government elected by the people.”

Senior Maoist leaders including Dahal, Mohan Baidya, Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Narayankaji Shrestha, and Ram Bahadur Thapa arrived in Birgunj on Friday to train party cadres of Bhojpura, Avadh and Mithila State Committees.
