The promotion process, in gridlock for several months due to differences between IGP Rabindra Pratap Shah, who heads the promotion recommendation committee, and Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, was further complicated after the addition of 10 new posts of SSP. [break]
Sources claimed that the list was finalized after Gachchhadar managed to ´manipulate´ the promotions favoring officials close to him.
The promoted fifteen officers belong to three recruitment batches of 2044, 2045 and 2046 BS.
Four SPs from 2046 BS batch, including widely acclaimed SP Ramesh Kharel, have made it to the list. The three others from the batch are Sarbendra Khanal, Rajendra Man Shrestha and Rajendra Shrestha.
The list includes nine SPs from the batch of 2044 BS including Milan Basnet and Yadav Raj Khanal. Kharel and Sarbendra Khanal now seem to be strong contenders for the 25th IGP. Kharel is currently head of District Police in Parsa while Khanal is in New York under UN Mission.
The promotion of officers of 2046 BS batch is significatnt owing to the fact that one among them will become the 25th IGP. Those from the batch of 2045 and 2046 BS are likely to retire after serving as deputy inspector general (DIG).
Also promoted are Bhog Bahadaur Thapa, Puskal Regmi, Subodh Ghimire, Yogeshwor Romkhani, Uttam Karki, Subash Chaudhary, Ganesh Gurung, Chhabilal Joshi and Uttam Bahadur Singh.
