“Two dozen live urological surgeries will be demonstrated during the conference,” President of NAUS Professor Jagadish Lal Baidya said during a press conference at B&B Hosital on Saturday.

Endourology and laparoscopy techniques are used for treatment of adrenal gland, kidney, urinary bladder and prostate gland which minimize morbidity and also improve recovery.

Baidya said 12 surgeries conducted in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) and 12 in B&B Hospital will be telecast live for the participants at Soaltee Hotel.

Stones within the urinary tract can be removed with the small telescopes through endourology. Similarly, blockages of urinary tracts can be cleared through this technology, according to Dr Prem Raj Gyawali.

He said patients can go home on the second day of endourological surgery.

“Many urologic problems are treated using laparoscopy these days, surgery can be conducted either by making micro hole or without a hole in the body,” he added.

Endourology is performed using small cameras and instruments inserted into the urinary tract.
