Mayanka Rana continues her impressive run

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: Mayanka Rana continued her impressive run in the 11th Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament as she handed a double bagel to Alsa Regmi during their U-12 girls´ singles quarterfinal match on Tuesday.



With the victory, Rana set up a semifinal clash against Ira Rawat and a possible title showdown with her twin sister Mahika, if both of them win their respective semifinal matches.[break]



Rawat secured a semifinal berth with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cathy Mathema.



Mahika, on the other hand, had to face tough resistance from Khushi Pandey in the first set but finally broke down Pandey´s tenacity in the second set to seal the match 6-4, 6-1 in her favor.



Mahika will meet Anne Mathema in the semifinal. Mathema saw off Karuna Gauchan 6-0, 6-2 in their quarterfinal match.



In the quarterfinals of the U-16 girls´ singles, Aslesha Lissanevitch eased past Pritika Manandhar 6-0, 6-2 to secure a place in the last four. Bibhuti Karki, Bijisha Shrestha and Manjita Nyochhan were the other players to secure the remaining semifinal berths.



Karki defeated Anushka Joshi 6-3, 6-2 while Shrestha overcame Suchita Satyal 6-3, 6-4 in their respective matches.



In another quarterfinal match, Shivalika Rana gave a tough challenge to Nyochhan. Rana fought till the end to tie the second set 6-6 but Nyochhan held her nerves to win the match 6-3, 7-6.



The pre-quarterfinals of the U-16 boys´ singles were one-sided affairs as all the winners had an easy passage to the last eight.



Ivanhoe Lissanevitch registered an easy 6-0, 6-2 win over Brijesh Swar, which was coincidentally the same scoreline as that of his sister Aslesha. Likewise, Ashish Agrawal beat Harsha Rauniyar 6-2, 6-2 and Abhishek Bastola defeated Akash Lamkhor 6-1, 6-2.



In other matches, Yeoram Lee saw off Pranav Kayastha 6-1, 6-1, Abhas Malla ousted Kaustuv Pandey 6-1, 6-1, Abhaya Gauchan defeated Gobinda Pakhrin 6-2, 6-2, Brahmanda Singh Moktan secured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bibek Shrestha and Saksham Karki beat Anthony Rai 6-0, 6-1.



There were also victories for Samrakshak Bhushan Bajracharya and his brother Samyak in the U-12 boys´ singles. Samrakshak hammered Dewansh Agrawal 6-0, 6-0 while diminutive Samyak registered a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 win over Satyap Ilme. Renjan Lama and Pranav Khanal won the other matches in the same age group.
