KATHMANDU, Feb 25: Accusing the CPN-UML central committee of taking an ambiguous decision on the seven-point agreement, the UCPN (Maoist) standing committee meeting on Friday upheld its earlier decision not to join the UML-led government.

The Maoists, however, decided to support the Khanal-led coalition by staying outside the government. [break]

“We decided not to join the government until the seven-point agreement is implemented in letter and spirit,” said the Maoist Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma after the meeting.

“We couldn´t take decision to join the government because the UML decision is just like water that takes shape of the vessel into which it is poured,” said Sharma. “We will support the government as long as it doesn´t go against the seven-point deal,” he said.

Maoist politburo member Kul Prasad KC accused the UML of being opportunistic.

“The UML leaders are acting like former royalists -- Surya Bahadur Thapa and Lokendra Bahadur Chand,” KC said. “The seven-point agreement was reached on the basis of mutual understanding between the two parties but the UML leaders are only for allowing certain ministries to the Maoists. They have also been saying that they would not allow Maoists to head key ministries like home and defense. This is unacceptable.”

The meeting also formed a central disciplinary body headed by party secretary Post Bahadur Bogati. Amik Sherchan, Dinanath Sharma, Jay Puri Gharti Magar and Hast Bahadur KC are members of the body.
