Addressing a mass meeting organized in Tulsipur, Dang as part of the party´s National Awareness Peace Campaign Koirala reminded the Maoists of the fate suffered by the kings owing to their autocratic ways. [break]
“Those who are against democracy ultimately get finished. The Maoists are trying to force autocracy and practicing totalitarian regime. This is a precursor to their downfall,” Koirala stated.
Koirala also talked about how NC has always helped the people safeguard democracy and promised it will continue to do so. “This is an era of people, an era of democracy. We have faced many hardships and made many sacrifices for democracy but the Maoists are trying to force autocratic regime. We will not endorse it,” he vowed.
NC had taken the risk of bringing the Maoists into mainstream politics, but they are promoting anarchy, he said, adding that the Maoists cannot be trusted until their combatants and weapons are managed and peace process concluded.
Senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said the Constituent Assembly (CA) term can only be extended by forging national consensus on peace and constitution. “NC is not ready to extend the CA term in absence of any credible basis,” Deuba said.
Likewise Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel urged the cadres to remain prepared for the decisive struggle for peace and constitution. He also accused the Maoists of not being sincere toward peace and constitution.
General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, central member Bimalendra Nidhi also addressed the mass meeting.
Party cadres and leaders from five districts of Rapti and neighboring Banke, Bardiya and Kapilvastu had attended the mass meeting which was the first of its magnitude in Dang.
