A Standing Committee meeting of the party on Friday concluded that the party should be given the chance to coordinate the mechanism as it is the largest party and Koirala had asked Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to take responsibility of the country a couple of days before his death.
"The meeting concluded that no party other than the Maoist can lead the HLPM," said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.
The meeting further concluded that the Maoist party should take initiative to drive the peace process to a conclusion and to complete constitution writing as the government has been "indifferent to" the peace process and constitution writing.
In the meeting, Dahal said that the present government should step down to ease political environment, according to Sharma.
