Maoists cannot be given home ministry: Nepal

BIRATNAGAR, Feb 12: CPN (UML) senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on Saturday said his party would accept only two clauses of the seven-point agreement signed between Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on February 3.



Speaking at a function in Biratnagar, Nepal said UML would only accept clause 2 and 7 of the deal. [break]



The clauses relate with the agreement between Dahal and Khanal to lead the high-level political mechanism on a rotational basis and to promulgate the new constitution on time.



He also reiterated that the Maoists cannot be given ministerial portfolios that look after law and order situation of the country.



He also said Bishnu Paudel from his party would lead the home ministry as decided by the party earlier.



“Maoists cannot be given home and defense ministry until the issue of Maoist combatants is settled,” he said.
