Maoists attack police in Chitwan

SAURAHA, March 4: Sauraha of Bacheli VDC, Chitwan remained tense after a clash erupted between the police and Maoist cadres on Thursday afternoon.



Nine police personnel and Maoist district in-charge Amar Birahi have been injured. [break]



Police resorted to baton charge to disperse the Maoist cadres.



The clash erupted when the police tried to remove a sign board and flag erected by the Maoist cadres in a seized land of a local.



The Maoists were planning to make ‘Martyr Garden’ (Shahid Uddhan) in the seized land.



The Maoists fled the scene after police reinforcements arrived.



They warned that they would halt traffic and shut down nearby Tadi Bazaar in protest of ‘police intervention’.
