Addressing a mass meet in Salyan, Baidya said, “If the constitution is not promulgated on time, there will be a revolt and the Maoists will lead it. He said the Maoists would launch the revolt no later than May 29 -- the deadline for constitution writing. [break]
Stating that timely promulgation of the new constitution and conclusion of the peace process would be a tribute to late Girija Prasad Koirala, he said, “Koirala wanted to complete the constitution writing and peace process on time. The political parties have to join hands to complete these tasks,” he said.
He accused the present government of spoiling rather than creating a favorable atmosphere for writing the new constitution and taking the peace process to a logical conclusion.
Accusing Defense Minister Bidya Bhandari and Nepal Army officials of speaking publicly against army integration, he said, “Their statements have no meaning as army integration is a part of the peace process. Any individual remarks make no sense,” he added.
The defense minister and top army officials have spoken against the bulk entry of Maoist´s People´s Liberation of Army (PLA) personnel into the security agencies.
Baidya said constitution can´t be written on time without forming a national unity government with the Maoists on board. “A national unity government with Maoist participation is a must to take the peace process to a conclusion,” he said, adding, “Otherwise, the Maoists will launch a revolt starting May 29 itself.”
